EU Fin Mins Pave Way For Crucial New Econ Governance Rules


BRUSSELS (MNI) - EU finance ministers meeting in Poland Friday, approved a compromise agreement on new legislation designed to play a central role in strengthening fiscal governance and economic cohesion in the Eurozone.

Among the measures agreed are a streamlined procedure for sanctioning countries than run excessive fiscal or current account imbalances that would punish countries that run large surpluses, as well as deficits. The present rules binding Eurozone countries constrain only public deficits and high debt-to-GDP ratios.

FXWRAP: Dlr Up Slightly On Stocks, Data; Euro Defensive


NEW YORK, Sept 16 (MNI) - The dollar racked up slight gains vs. the euro and the yen Friday, the greenback lifted modestly by U.S. economic data as the euro adopted a slightly defensive tone ahead of the weekend amid light flows.

Euro-dollar was changing hands at $1.3790 in afternoon dealings Friday, the euro in the lower reaches of the day's $1.3753/1.3842 U.S. hours range after beginning the U.S. session around $1.3825.

US Credit Default Swaps:IG16 Flatlined Amid Global Uncertainty


CHICAGO, Sept 16 (MNI) - The benchmark index on investment grade Credit Default Swaps or IG16 was unchanged late Friday amid too much global uncertainty, sources said.
