FXWRAP: Dollar Near Flat In Quiet Dealings, Euro-phoria Fades

NEW YORK, Oct 28 (MNI) - The dollar was holding near unchanged vs. the euro and the yen amid light dealings Friday, and currency traders were happy to settle back into quiet mode after a difficult week of trading.

Euro-dollar changed hands at $1.4155 in afternoon dealings Friday, with the euro within a few pips of its early $1.4170 level of the session and the pair contained in a narrow $1.4134/1.4185 range during U.S. hours.

Dollar-yen meantime was holding around Y75.75 in afternoon dealings, steady for much of the session though the dollar was just above its afternoon low seen at Y75.67. This was seen in a brief flurry of action, but the dollar's upper bound for the day contained at Y75.79.

OTTAWA (MNI) - Canada in the first five months of this fiscal year (April 1 to August 31) reduced its federal budgetary deficit by 20.7% from the period last year, further cementing the likelihood of no fiscal or monetary stimulus in months to come.

The federal Department of Finance in its monthly Fiscal Monitor report said Friday that FY2011-2012 through August experienced a budgetary deficit of C$10.7 billion (U.S. $10.8 billion), compared with one of $13.5 billion in the period of 2010-2011.

Revenues had increased by $32.1 billion to $95.9 billion for the five months, almost entirely on a rise of $2.8 billion in personal income tax revenues.
