NEW YORK, July 20 (MNI) - The euro fell to new two-year lows near $1.2144 Friday, driven by widening peripheral spreads and a dip in German Bund yields.

NEW YORK, July 20 (MNI) - Risk aversion seeped through the domestic credit market Friday as the risk-taking mood among market participants turned cautious ahead of the weekend, traders said.

At the time of writing, the North American index for 5-year investment-grade credits, or IG.18, was wider by 3.25 basis points at 111.25 bps, about on par with last Friday's closing level.

While most big domestic banks beat earnings estimates this week -- including Bank of America Corporation, The Goldman Sachs Group, Citigroup, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co and Wells Fargo & Co -- the positive tone about riskier assets earlier in the week was overshadowed by Friday, amid fresh jitters over Europe's debt crisis.

NEW YORK, July 20 (MNI) - The dollar was able to rack up fresh gains against the euro while holding steady versus the yen, the euro skidding to a fresh low for the week against the greenback and more than decade-long lows against the yen.

Euro-dollar was changing hands at $1.2160 in quiet afternoon dealings Friday, the euro in the lower reaches of its $1.2144-1.2241 U.S. hours range after seeing its high as the US session got underway.

Dollar-yen meantime was changing hands at Y78.50, slightly below its early Y78.55 starting level of the day and after traversing a narrow Y78.45-60 range during U.S. hours.
